Identifying your target audience and positioning your artist website

Once you’ve set your objectives and formulated a mission statement for your site, begin to you need to think about your target audience and how you want to position your site.

Your aim should be to identify those who will be looking at your site and then position your site in such as way that they respond to it positively.

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. What is their demographic profile?: age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, occupation etc
2. What is their geographic profile?: country, county, city, town, size of population etc
3. What is their behavioral profile?: reasons for visiting your site etc
4. What is their psychographic profile?: interests, activities, opinions, attitudes etc

It is likely that you have already subconsciously thought about these questions and already have a profile of your target audience. But make sure you always keep your audience in the back of your mind whenever you make a decision.
